Playback Improvisation - Explore relationships through theatre

  • Studio 108 #206-321 Wallace Street Nanaimo, BC Canada (map)

Playback Theatre Workshop Series

Come explore our relationships from the inside out with Myriam Verzat, as she guides is through a 6 week movement improvisation workshop based on Playback Theatre and Action Theatre.

This fascinating journey is based on a form of participatory theatre where participants share about their own life experiences and then the essence of that sharing is reflected back to them through movement, dance and music.

Learn more about Playback Theatre.

Participants do not require a background in dance or theatre, as the intention is to connect to your creativity, while learning more about relationship dynamics through play. You will be gently led into body and voice improvisation explorations, inspired by our human experience. From week to week, we will experiment together with different formats related to Playback Theatre and experience the type of deep listening that can happen through them.

This workshop is not primarily geared towards performance, but there is a possibility of an intimate workshop performance the day of the last session if the group wants to invite a couple of friends.

WHEN?
Every Monday at 4:30pm to 6:30pm from Jan 22 to Feb 26

WHERE?
Studio 108, #206-321 Wallace Street Nanaimo, BC

WHO?

Myriam has been part of a professional Playback Theatre troupe for two years and is eager to share this practice with the community. She is also trained in Action Theatre, physical theatre, dance improvisation, mime and clown, which all inform her improvisation practice and teachings. Her practice in Nonviolent Communication drew her to delve into relationship dynamics through theatre and she approaches Playback Theatre as a form of empathy through movement, words and metaphors.

Listen to an interview from Myriam about the connection between her NVC work and Playback Theatre.

Participants will hopefully leave fuelled with a new creative energy along with a new curiosity about the practice of Playback Theatre.
