Bringing more compassion into schools
Workshops for teachers, children and parents
Reconnect is working with school systems involving children, teachers and parents, to create more compassionate environments for learning and growth. The intention of the program is to support teachers, administration and parents by giving them a reference point to talk about relationships and emotions and give the whole school community a common experience.
Reconnect offers the following program:
4 sessions of 1 hour in the classroom (the workshops can be grouped in a whole day of facilitation to see up to 4 classrooms each time)
Two full days of training for teachers or a series of 8 meetings with the teachers over the year
An discovery evening (3h) of training and a program of compassionate parenting over 6 weeks
Reconnect led a successful project with Gabriola Elementary school using a similar structure. It is also possible to design a format adapted to the specific context of your school.
Teachers training
In a powerful two days workshop, teachers will:
– improve their capacity to navigate strong emotions by understanding themselves better
– provide the students with a safe emotional environment to maximize learning
– develop better empathetic listening skills towards students
– foster collaboration and trust amongst children
– deal with conflict effectively in the classroom
Reconnect also offers a long term program over the year to work side by side with teachers and support them incorporating compassionate practices in their classroom. Please contact me for more information.
Children’s workshops
Reconnect leads workshops with creative and playful facilitation techniques such as Mr and Mrs Potatoes. Children are learning to:
- understand and respect each other, even when someone is doing something they don’t like
- understand the harm of blame, labelling, and judgment
- discover different ways to express their feelings and needs
- find ways to make requests of each other instead of ignoring or excluding
Parenting workshops
In theses 3 hours discovery workshops, parents will learn to:
- Get to hear other parents’ experiences and get to share their own
- Discover how to better listen to their children to strengthen your connection
- Learn new tools to transform conflict into cooperation
- Connect with the power of stepping out of the binaries of praise/criticism and right/wrong
- Learn how to have meaningful dialogue with the children’s teachers
